Phishing or hacking?

Hackers have mounted an electronic attack against Fairfax’s newly-acquired $700 million internet auction site, Trade Me.

Trade Me executives have posted a security warning to clients that emails are circulating, purporting to be from Trade Me, asking them to confirm their log-on details.

“It directs you to a site that looks like Trade Me and asks you to log in,” Trade Me said.

“This is not from Trade Me.

” If you have already responded to the email please change your password immediately.”

Internet observers said the emails appeared to be a “phishing” campaign, in which people received a false message saying: “We recently noticed one or more attempts to log in to your Trade Me account … if you did not initiate the log ins, please visit Trade Me as soon as possible to check-up your account information”
